The overmap random encounter system of the game has seen some improvements during the V3 development. The system have been transformed from a simple list of possible encounters for each environment into the same scripting language the game's dialogue files use. This means that the it supports all the functions that come with that environment. The new system is actually fully in use in 2.13 already.

An important function that allows for this change is curated_list. This new feature allows the scripting to pick an option semi-randomly from a list that's modified the same way as a normal player dialogue options list. This gives a lot more freedom for developers to plan how the encounters on the map start or are modified by events in the game.
The curated_list function is also a very powerful tool for creating variance in repeated actions that jobs/tasks like fishing give the player in V3. It also helps with handling complex interactions with NPCs that depend on multiple variables. The implementation of this function was not a small task but it's definitely been worth it.

ReplyDeleteHey man love the game but I was wondering if you have any news on repeat scenes with certain characters like the guard/fisherman and the merchant bug woman? I really like those two and think it would be fun if we could have fun more than once and then they abruptly cut it off.
ReplyDeleteThere are definitely plans for repeatable scenes like Shyni's but only in specific points in the character narratives.

Yes I already do that with multiple characters but I am hoping for more scenes to repeat. Also thanks for the reply draco I hope to one day enjoy your creation further.

Deleteits monthly art, and no its likely not going to be in the game, well unless you or someone wants to write them into the game, thats the only way i can see them have a chance of being in the game. but MD gets to make the call if he'll will allow it or not.
