The april 1st of 2023

Still working on V3.

Yes, it's very disappointing and irritating. Honestly, it's been causing a great deal of anxiety to me for the last three years and just quitting to end the questions and self-doubt seems like the better deal compared to listening to the jeering from the sidelines. But I've seen multiple projects and internet personalities quit projects like this to save themselves from the anxiety of "not delivering", and it always felt far worse than just getting even a small snippet of content from them later down the line.

Yes, the development has been quite slow, but it cannot be made any faster. I do have a life outside of Teraurge, so my schedule is filled with things that take precedence, which keeps slowing and obstructing the development. Remembering the posts I've read from other game devs I notice that they'd list the things that affect the development time and such, in order to justify their shortcomings. However, I feel like these hurdles tend to be so mundane there'd be little point to list them, other than to make it seem like the dev is groveling for forgiveness, which wouldn't make much sense in my case because I've grown unrepentant.

I was planning to include preview snippets in this blog post, but I realized I would have to dedicate time and effort to hunt for those (which I don't have). Then I would have to suffer the questions about them without being able to answer (because I don't have time for that). And then finally I would have to watch as people create new expectations and assumptions based on the previews and lack of answers which ultimately wouldn't be corrected (because I don't have time for that).

And here is the traditional up to date stream art super pack for your convenience.

V3 will come out whether you like it or not.

  1. However long it takes, you'll still have a bunch of people who look forward to what you put out while also having lives of their own and other shit to do. However long it takes for V3 to be released, I'll still be looking forward to it, as your work is amazing as well as extremely rare in style and content. Know that, however depressing all the people whining in your general direction can be, that they remain a vocal minority who literally have nothing better to do than try to be trolls for whatever bullshit reason they've made up at the time. Your work is appreciated, and worth waiting for.

  6. Please keep going, your creation is far better than a large number of games on the market in terms of world view and plot narrative. Even if your work does not contain pornographic elements, it is still very unique and fascinating. Don’t worry about those trolls, please believe it. There's a whole bunch of people really looking forward to your work.

  7. I found this recently, thought it was a dead project, heard you posted updates, I now find this and think-100% normal. If I may be so bold, I say be the "No Man's Sky" team if you have to. Take all the time you need to actually make the game you want. The game has delivered most of what it promised at launch by now... at least that's what the Internet Historian said.

  8. honestly just having a 'I'm still working on it' post every once and a while is enough for me

  9. Been a fan of your art and of course Terurge for years. It reignited a love for xenobiology and concept art as a whole for me. I've accepted the "it'll be out when its ready" aspect of this project. And as a creator myself it deadens the passion in me to see others begin to hate the work due to pressure, either internal or external. I hope to see and play V3 one day but I am patient. I would rather never see it than to see you hate the work.

  10. big fan here, i really apreciate the effort and love you put on your game, the dialogues are really well done and theres literally anything like Teraurge. i think your fans get a little frustrated because they want to see more about this new concept never seen before, i hope that doesnt affect you enough to quit doing this, it would be hearth breaker to forget about this amazing game.

  11. you have no set deadline like AAA developers thats forced to publish an unfinished product so take your time its done when its done.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Like others have said here, there's no deadline, so just take your time with it and make it something you love working on. So many people will gladly wait however long it takes to get a project that you love rather than one you yourself dislike, and personally, not knowing anything is exciting merely because it'll feel more special. I wish you keep working on the game for as long as you love the work you're doing, since Teraurge is something so incredibly special and different.

  13. Honestly? Just seeing any update is enough, even if it's just to say its going slow. Knowing it's no abandoned means I can wait a long, long time.

  15. This is perfectly reasonable, if it does stress you so much though, take a week or so off of the internet.

  20. Will be hopping on the patreon bandwagon soon just stuck waiting on the gubbermint but it should happen by August with any luck. Also where you find the discord link I know it's unofficial but would love to spend time with other fans and ask questions too.

  21. Just knowing you're still working on it makes me so happy! You do you, on your own pace!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Never give up! You can do it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I know how it feels. I do AMVs and SFMs in my free time at an abhorrent pace (like, 2-3 per year). I know that you know that there's no excuse, and even with irl stuff, you should be able to squeeze in 40mins of work on your project every other day.

So my advice is to just finish it, even if it's going to be 5 times worse than what you initially envisioned. If you keep it on life support, it'll suck the life out of you and will block you from moving on to other stuff. You could also nuke it, but there'll always be a tiny voice in your head whispering about what could've been.

  25. hi, hope you're doing well. Use as much time as you need, the main thing is that it comes out in such a way that you yourself are satisfied. After all, for us Teraurge fans, the main thing is to get back into the world you created.

  26. I have all of the time in the world to wait for a game update please take a break if you want, I hope you don't feel stressed because even if people try to rush you they are likely a minority of the players i'm sure the majority really just want you to take your time and relax.

  27. Hello, greetings from S.A. I recently discovered your game and your art, please take as much time as you need, and be sure that your work is absolutely amazing! I look forward to new updates, whenever they are ready !

    3. It 'litchurally' fucking can and has before by other developers using more sophisticated engines than fucking unity, you're not getting paid to suck his toes as he drags them around doing nothing, infact you're the one probably paying him to sit around and do fuck all. The game's never coming out at this point and I want you to put your brain back into your skull and take your money out of his patreon so he'll be forced to actually develop the game he's been getting paid for years to sit on and do fuck all with or get a god damn job. You are enabling this behavior by funding his lazyness, he's not keeping us updated because he "has anxiety" over giving us a paragraph about what he's done once a month, he's not keeping us updated because there are no fucking updates

  28. "V3 will come out whether you like it or not."

Awesome. Looking forward to it. Take your time and have fun with it. That's the entire point of games.

  29. I certainly hope this new Unity install tax doesn't demotivate your development too much. Its a great thing you're making here, and it would suck to see it end because of this! Fuck Unity for this dumb move and I hope, for every game I enjoys sake, that they roll it back before.

    1. I *think*, and I haven't looked into it much, but I think it's mainly for games that make over 200K a year or something? That's what I've heard at least, and I'm not entirely sure what the complete changes are, but still sounds like a shit change and I hope it won't cause issues.

      Delete
    2. Okay so after googling it, yeah it needs $200k a year and 200k player installs. This game should be fine, but now I wouldn't trust Unity to keep it there forever. Also man that affects like every game I like damn rip

  30. It've been four and half Years since last patch to the game, right?.. I want to believe that development is alive but it sadly would be foolish to.

    1. 2019/03/30 was the v2.10 update if I am not wrong.
And the last phrase the dev said here is literally "V3 will come out whether you like it or not."
It may take a few more years, but I am sure as long as the dev lives, the game will keep developing.

    2. Well I mean... yeah, that makes it 4.5+ years from that date.

  33. I just finished going through all the possible routes in the current version, and I love it. No complaints. When I had a complaint, I'd google it, only to find out I just didn't have the stats to do what was always there. I expect greatness from V3, but I don't expect it to be out soon, if it means a better game. Take all the time you need. You're making art.
