Weekly update #8

Art

The monthlies backlog has ended with the last weekly update and they've been replaced with the concept sketches and random art. This week it's some of my TU concept art for the "Muds" a rundown place with poisonous air, poverty and mud, (muds is not part of the V3 update).




Dev spotlight

I've been doing a lot of UI implementation this week and learned bunch of things about it. Here's a quick and dumb animation of the default attack effect and the half working combat UI.

  1. I think the attack animation shouldn't go from left to right. The battle sequences are presented like pokemon battles with the perspective seeming to come from the viewer, so the attack animation should appear on the creature to look like it came from you. Dunno if I'm explaining this well enough. Also, the muds look cool. I imagine our character will need some protective clothing. It'd be nice to actually look like a traveling wastelander than keep going around in just a t-shirt and jeans.

    1. Mentioning Pokemon would probably throw off Meandraco since Pokemon battles are kinda done in a left to right direction with regards to the Player Character's attacks. An RPG to better convey what you're describing where the PC attacks directly come out from a 1st person view/the Player would be Shin Megami Tensei.

I think the idea is to have the attacks land on the enemy health bar if im not mistaken since its on the right side of the screen compared to you who is on the left, it seems to me like that is the case if i would judge by the space thats left between the edge of the picture and the visual effect. It leaves space for their health bar and other things on that side of the screen.

    And if im not mistaken the creature presenting its assets in the third picture is probably trying to sell some of her own ¨time¨ to those passing by. Would be cool if players could make ¨deals¨ with some of the npc's during certain times of the day and night, pheraps some doesn't like light or crowds of people, or are outright forbidden to perform the act so they do it during the night.

  5. I see that you are going to give us a big Update
    Take your time fix all the bugs (because I know that you solve a bug and that bug comes out like ten more bugs) and do the art you can.

    No pressure from me you are making a perfect job on this game and i love that is so unique in the designs and art.

    1. The Muds is unfortunately not part of the V3 content. I've updated the blogpost to mention this.

    3. I think V3 will be mostly code and the UI enhancements, Meandraco mentioned it in the earlier posts, iirc.

  6. Hey MD! I'm getting the feeling the you want too much! I think most of us would be happy if you would only add more content to this game not changing the fight Technics and the coding. I know it would make it better once you release the V3 but with more sentient characters to talk with, more territory to explore, more ferals to shag the game would be still amazing without a single change in the code.

    1. the game needs the framework improved to support the content thats going to be added in with later updates, as well as making it easier for others to include things into the game. you might not see it as needing improved and changed, but it really does.
