Release aftermath

Hoo boy!

TLDR:
So Teraurge has been out in the wild for a week now. It sounds cliché but I've been overwhelmed by the reception. I have a lot hopes and dreams riding on my back now. I'll try my best to carry this weird cross to the promised land, but at heart I'm just a very naughty boy (with limited time and resources).

Shoutouts to people who deserve recognition:

Alordab, is the eccentric genius who wrote the most of the Braq content you have so shamefully consumed. He is also the person who probably saved the whole project by restarting my motivation and providing feedback/testing on the scripting system. He is an enigma to me and to the public, but he still carries Teraurge as his avatar on FA. Dude, if you're up for writing more tripods or excessively mammaried cowsauruses, let me know.

Snekguy, kindly kindled my lust for writing stuff. If not for his viper sagas and space cats, Shyni, Naigad, Subni and other terribly heartbreaking characters might not exists. Snek also helped me with some writing stuff to get the game over the finish line. Things you need to know about me:
  • I'm not a people person. I like people and talking but social stuff drains my batteries fast and I start avoiding it.
  • I'm not a code wizard. I self-taught most of my code stuff by bits and bobs so my overall knowledge base is spotty to say the least.
  • I'm not bisexual or gay (bunch of suspicious "Ooh?"s emanate from the audience) so m/m (and especially f/f) writing stuff will probably always be slightly off, but I'll try my best.
  • I'm sometimes very heavily constrained by my other commitments so I cannot promise clear working hours for the game dev. I am dedicating a lot of time to it at the moment and I am almost maniacally motivated by the overall response to the buggy and unfinished demo.
  • I'm... I'm a good writer? I've seen people praise the writing a lot and I haven't seen much criticism of the overall writing quality (aside from the elementary grade grammar mess ups). I will try not to fellate myself (too much) over this fact.
  • I really like lists.
My plan (in order of execution):
  • A blog post about Teraurge scripting and other contributor writer support.
  • Release 1.12 as the last update to 1.0 (Grammar and scripting fixes)
  • Upgrade the teraurge_janitor to reduce scripting errors and give it to contributors.
  • Start working on 2.0
  • Release 2.0

The 2.0 content:
  • Cut content reintegrated back into the game.
    • Sinful m/m dickery.
    • Several missing feral scenes.
    • Few dialogue details.
  • Remastered Tornoth scenes + dialogue.
  • Updating existing art.
  • More pictures for existing scenes.
  • New small locations in Sejan.
  • New items.
  • Possibly new encounters from contributors.
  • New characters.
  • Continuation to major character stories.

Background development:
  • teraurge_janitor upgrades.
  • Combat system revamp.
  • UI enhancement.
  • Distant locations development.

Games that inspire Teraurge:
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
    • I wouldn't call anything in the game systems good. It's kinda collection of cruddy and disparate mechanics tied into a giant yarn ball with thousand miles of atmosphere and story. Erhm... So it's completely different from my game.
  • Gothic II
    • Probably the best open world systematization to date. The eurojank clunks up the game real bad nowadays, but oddly enough it's required to make the game work.
  • Fallout 1-2
    • Fallouts are kinda etched into my soul. I like the simplicity of concentrating onto a single character (It helps all your party members run into your guns to get mulched). The feeling confusion and hidden depth that permeate the earliest Fallouts are also something I really like.
  • Corruption Of Champions 
    • I was very frustrated by the content, theme and the systematization and I really wanted to make a better ones. Yes, CoC is the reason Teraurge exists, as silly as that sounds.

Notes on the game's design:
  • Harems/corruption/etc paraphilia usually found in porn games will not be systematically implemented for the sexual gratification of the player. It's possible to have a character with a fetish but that fetish will be handled in the greater context of the game and not be a bubble of porn inside the world.
  • The idea behind the player attributes is to keep them more or less permanent (fallout 1 style), this sounds retarded to anyone with any crpg experience, but the attributes only exists to define the player character for the duration of the game. I will do a larger blog post about attributes and player progression in the future (there will be player progression). The stats and the stat checking will become more pronounced and tightened up in later versions (There will be major changes. For example: perception will go into the trash and will be replaced by a non attribute system).
  • There will be very limited grinding in the game (The grinding will only result Krats and perishable items associated with them). You are not supposed to slap "monsters" in the meadows to beat gold pieces out of their asses. Adats cannot be earned through grinding and they're literally irreplaceable "storybucks".
  • I have looked into survival mechanics and I while I like the idea personally, I don't see how to integrate them into the game yet, or if I even should. The survival/travel mechanics would almost become a layer of free floating "stuff" on top of the unique story content. The survival mechanics would need money to fuel it and then player is suddenly slapping Krat carrying wildlife to eke out more dough to pay for supplies so he can travel to the next story location...
  • You will always miss content, this is intentional and will continue through the rest of the content. This will probably only make sense in the long run.
  • Traveling large distances will be arduous and will take time. The game will feature "fast travel" but even that will be pieces of non repeatable story. I want the player to feel they've gone on an adventure when they've traveled a large distance on the map. The player won't be flitting around the map to deliver ten monsterbunny ears for 20 XP. 
  • The game is designed around PC wandering alone. I'd love to have situations involving group travel in controlled story bits but the game mechanically just doesn't support party gameplay. All the content is designed around PC being a lone wanderer.
  • All the dirty bois using memory editing, don't bother, the security measures are disabled so you can just edit the save files.

I probably didn't explain half of the stuff I meant to, so do comment and ask questions. I'll try answer them. I will now move on to writing a blogpost to help the poor writers who jumped into the abyss to keep me company.

BTW, there's been a lot of misinformation going on about what's in the game and how to do certain stuff, so don't believe everything you hear about the content. That said, did anyone successfully open the sock tree portal? I haven't seen anyone post anything about it.

  4. I posted this on your Patreon but I think it somehow didn't make it through.

    I love your game! The writing is good, the art and lore are amazing, gameplay shows promise, the premise feels like a breath of fresh air, I like that there is sex but it ain't forced or heavily centered around it, RPG mechanics, male / female protagonist, beings that actually look alien and otherworldly but still manage to look attractive in their own way, etc.

    I have but one suggestion - I think you could benefit from having more Patreon options because the ones you have right now are too few and don't really offer much variety in terms of quantity we may donate. It's going to take a while to reach that 1400$ goal with only 1$ and 7$ options and the game definetly deserves more, you deserve more.

    1. Hey! I saw your comment in my email but it's completely missing on the Patreon page. No idea what's going on there. I'm looking into Patreon stuff to create more tiers.

      I'm seeing a lot of nodding towards the overall theme of the game. I'm happy that a porn game like this resonates with people. The sex stuff comes off very differently when you have a serious framing device.

  5. A few words of encouragement and advice if I may:

    The main strength of your writing seems to be that you have the *amount* just right. Not too little, not too much. Keep the volume of text in your scenes about the same and you should keep people's interest.

    Don't stress too much about the homosexual interactions. The vast majority of players seem to have come for the male-on-xeno or the xeno-on-female scenes.

    I understand about not being social, I am the same way, just keep in mind people ask a lot of questions and can sometimes sound demanding, but that just means they are interested.

    I agree with you about the player's stats, I think you are on the right track there. Doing it this way gives the player a reason to play through multiple times.

    And try not to get discouraged or burn out, you have a good thing going here!

  6. I like that you made this game and I like that you promised a 2.0 version already. It took me 3-4 hours to go through everything at first time I downloaded and I think I will put in this version more time. The fighting the wildlife, the sentient characters are full with life and possibilities.

    Some suggestions:
    - The sex scenes should contain an X-ray image also as they are aliens and I would like to see what is going inside. Your writing is good to imagine but as you decided to illustrate everything it would be better to illustrate that too. Like with the Poh-ack.
    - Please add more blowjob/facerape scenes for different creatures as well. I know it is just a personal preferences but I'm greatly unto blowjobs. It was a fantastic to achieve with the Braq and it would have been good to lure/rape other creatures into oral too. So just keep in mind this little request.
    - I think that would be good to have a journal or a list about the "been there, done that" stuffs. Like a log in the game so you can see how far you are in the process, what creatures you did and what are the things you missed. For example: Yet unavailable options should appear in the dialog but as inactive options and a mark (not yet available). So the player would know there is something more to figure out with that creature. And in the inventory, you should add a personal diary so when I check it I could see that where I left the story previous day.
    - There should be some in-heat creature around the territory. When you would encounter one there would be risk to rape you if you are not fast or strong enough. And there would be an option to resist and fight back. It would an interesting to see a female creature ride you or suck you to oblivion. :)
    - Personally I would like to see "dangerous" sexual encounters too. For example a creature full with big and sharp teeth offering a blowjob. Or like with the Breirb where you can't move or you will hurt yourself.

    And please please don't give up updating this game and adding more features and creatures. I think this is the best Xeno lover game with Bestiality since the beginning of time :)

  7. Great game and art style. The characters are cool and fun to interact with. Porn content wise, the balance of sexuality is pretty good. If you want a writer for homosexual scenes I'd do it for free. Also, losing in combat should occasional forced sex on the PC. Maybe have a clothing degradation on losses for it to make sense, especially if it's a nonsentiant creature. In top of that, a complicit and resistant choice could help further refine it.

    1. I am going to revisit some of the sketch pictures (some are fairly low quality) and making more for few scenes. The changes will be in the next content patch (2.0)

    2. I meant finished, coloured pictures like we have during conversation with characters currently for example. Granted, sketches' style is pretty cool, tho some of them are really rough.

    3. The sketchy style is going to remain for the scenes. It's a resource thing, the colored dialogue art takes a long time to get done and I need a lot of pics for the scenes. I agree some of the sketches are really rough and I'll be revisiting them.

      I'm currently working on setting up contributing writers so content can be produced faster in the future. The 1.12 will be part of that effort and feature tools to help the writers.

First off, i'd like to say i love the game. it's really awesome, even if its an alpha. the characters are all super....hmmm.....strange sounds rude.......exotic? yeah, exotic sounds better. they're so....alien looking, most of the time, that its actually refreshing. its not like the elder scrolls, where everything is basically human in appearance. shyni, naigad, subni, bykaas, and the witch are my absolute favorites

    i do have some questions though.....you said the stats are permanent? like, theres not gonna be anyway to raise any of them up at all? thats seems a bit harsh....wont that end up locking people out of stuff? i mean, my characters dumb as a stump, so my interaction with things like the animals is fairly limited, and i ended up having to make a new character cause i didnt have a high will and got possessed by a bowl and killed shyni (....i legitimately got sick and almost cried....i had to stop playing for like, an hour). so, now i have a high enough will to resist that, but that ended up taking a lot of my points away from other things like combat skills, int, and charisma, which hurts cause i'm usually the kind of guy who tries to make friends with everyone

  12. Just found this game and I honestly love it. It hits me right in all the right weird kinks. I love that you can play a male .. most games anywhere close to this is all xeno on female.I really enjoy the art and hope to see the interaction scene art to the quality of the character portrait art. I love the scene writing because its just "enough"games like CoC and Tits are a wall of text and I am a visual person so a clever paragraph along with your amazing creature art is simply amazing. I would love to see this grow into a huge game where the MC decides to settle down and build a home and take a profession ( I'd be a Braq farmer and raise Niirds as well). Seriously this game blows me a away , Thank you for making such an amazing game and sharing it with us!
